The Institute of Mathematical Sciences may award a prize to the family known as the Johnstone Scholarship to help students graduate in mathematics or statistics at the Australian National University. Prof. Iain Johnstone (Bachelor of Science (Hons), 1978 and Master of Science, 1979) funded this award as a tribute to his parents.

Johnstone Family Scholarship in Australia Worth
The scholarship will provide $5,000 a year for up to three years and may include a special year at the option of the selection committee. The scholarship will be paid in equal parts at the beginning of each semester.
Eligibility for Johnstone Family Scholarship in Australia 2022
The Scholarship is available to an ANU student who:
Is a national or international student;Is enrolled in a bachelor’s program in mathematics and/or statistics (including a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, a bachelor’s degree in statistics or a bachelor’s degree in science with an important mathematical and/or statistical component determined by the selection panel);Have completed at least 48 credits and a maximum of 96 credits of her studies;can prove a history of excellence in her undergraduate studies.
How to apply
This scholarship can be requested online via the link below. Applications consist of a one-page supporting statement by the student which details why they deserve a scholarship and how the funds would enable them to better pursue their studies and allow them to reach their potential.
Selection Criteria
The selection committee will consider academic merit, ATAR, participation in mathematics competitions, awards, equity and access including financial need, disability, indigenous, regional and rural. Preference may be given to applicants enrolled in the Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences with a research interest in statistics.
